IGO8 frissítés, most!

Letölthetővé vált az IGO8 2008.10-es frissítése. Emellett az Európai speedcam adatbázist ingyenesen le lehet tölteni hozzá.

A frissítés mérete 189MB. Nagyon fontos, hogy a telepítés előtt készítsetek mentést. Miután nagyrészben magyarul jelenik meg a Toolbox, így sokkal könnyebb dolgotok lesz, mint a legutóbbi frissítéskor!

My new crush... The TomTom Go940 Live

Enter the new product range: TomTom GO Live 540, 740, 940.


I have been eying it for ages (...haha, it was introduced a mere few weeks ago). I have read all there is to know about it, seen all the pictures (I think it’s beautiful) and daydream about what it would look like grinning on the dashboard of the Ancient Hardware (a Lada 2107) but all I can really visualise is myself grinning like the Chesire Cat.:))


As you have also noticed already, TomTom is top-notch when it comes to innovation. The idea they have come up now is that the navigation unit can be instructed to download some information from the internet, including:

- Traffic info
- Speed camera locations
- Weather data
- Fuel prices
- Google information

According to the web-based info these are options only that can be used subject to subscription. The unit itself is some 50 quid more expensive than its predecessor, which is, however, partly attributable to the hardware upgrade.

Well, the new looks are dashing. I immediately coined a new alias for the 940 Live: the “New” Black Duke (the “old” being the Qtek S200).

And now let’s see some of the features that make this new device worth reading about:

– Maps of Europe, USA, and Canada
– LIVE Service (available in supported countries only)
– 4 GB (!) of internal flash memory
– Bluetooth hands-free calling
– EPT
– Advanced lane guidance
– FM transmitter
– Text-To-Speech
– Voice command and control
– Image viewer
– MP3 player

Now that I am faced with this list of features again I feel I will need to lay my pennies aside... This is not a crush anymore but a strong desire and I simply must have it (...maybe I could settle for a TomTom GO 740). Anyway, we shall see what we shall see.:))

TomTom HD Traffic Live

What a cool idea. When I wake up in the morning I look up at the foggy London sky. Big Ben has just chimed 6 o’clock. It’s raining again... I switch on my computer. Today I do the afternoon shift. I sip my nice hot morning tea and catch up on the news.
As always, I also click on my usual TomTom site. Not bad... I can see the traffic info for the Greater London area.
If I had the morning shift today I would be stuck in the traffic jam on Charing Cross Rd. I think it’s about time to switch to a bicycle – if only it wasn’t that cold outside. No way. I opt for my car and the traffic jam again but I check TomTom’s HD Traffic Live before I leave. In the afternoon we are discussing Hungary again in the office. Rumour has it that GPS navigation devices sell like hot potato there – but TomTom is far from being the market leader...
Well, after the brainstorming we had at night I already know how to catapult the company to the TOP3. ))



Er... let’s get back to reality... Arrrgh! It’s cold outside, magic London is 1450 km away and there is no sign of TomTom’s HD Traffic system here in Hungary, just the “top to toe in tailbacks”... Off we go, get in the car, install Tommy, connect the TMC receiver and take the plunge into the Budapest traffic. Wish me luck.

Tomtom Route Planner – TomTom map on the internet

There are several online maps available on the internet, but something still tells me after the first brief trial that this is one of the better implementations of the idea. It is very usable even in its present, early form, it has a simple user interface, and calculates routes quickly. There are quite a number of “extra” features included, most of them have been borrowed from car navigation systems.

The user interface is clear and there is a roll-down menu with the legend of icons.

TomTom Route Planner also includes an “Online Help” interface for those who need some assistance while using the software.

The map also features traffic information, alas, Hungary is not in the list of countries supported as yet. If you hover over an item with the mouse cursor a pop-up box appears with some more detailed info on the cause of the delay. According to TomTom, Hungarian TMC info will also be included sometime in the near future – they promised to let us know as soon as this service has become available.

The route can be displayed in its entirety or in sections, and the trickier parts can even be zoomed in to enable a “detailed investigation”.

TomTom MapShare? Túl az ötmillión!...

Elérte az ötmilliomodik javítást TomTom MapShare. A TomTom MapShare azt a célt hivatott szolgálni, hogy a felhasználók a saját térképükön történt javításaikat meg tudják osztani a TomTom közösségével. Ez ugyanennyi apró változtatást jelent a TomTom térképein... Hogy, miket lehet megváltoztatni?

Én egy Kelet Európa térképet használok, és mikor utoljára letöltöttem a módosításokat közel tízezer javítást jelzett a TomTom Home. Ezért van az, hogy Európát járva, a TomTom készülékeivel futunk bele a legkevesebb fordítva egyirányú utcába, vagy az hogy meglepően kevés a rossz kanyarodási szabály, és az is hogy a folyamatosan változó utcaneveket is követi a térképünk...:)

Én magam is aktívan használom ezt az ingyenes szolgáltatást. Igy amit én kijavítok, azt a többi TomTom felhasználó is(azaz Ti is) tudja használni. A javaslatom, hogy a letöltési beállításoknál az legyen a "leggyengébb láncszem" hogy "Sokak által jelentett pontok". Igy kisebb az esély arra, hogy rossz információt kapunk.

Megjelent az IGO 2006 frissítése, TMC nélkül.

Ismét végetért egy szavazás. Köszönöm szavazataitokat. Az a válasz nyert, mely számomra is a leg logikusabbnak tűnt. Végre egy teljesen friss térkép, amelyiken már a Megyeri Híd, M0-ás, M7-es autópálya is helyesen van rajta.



És ahogy a tévében mondják: a többi csak hal a tortán.:)))
